The Christian Motorcyclists Association

The Christian Motorcyclists Association(CMA) is a Christian organization, which started in the USA during 1974 when Pastor Herb Shreve bought a motorcycle for himself and his son, he hoped it would improve their relationship. Together they went to different bike rallies but in 1975 the organization we know as CMA was founded.

Historically as CMA developed, the members mostly rode chopper/cruisers style bikes and consequently attended events that suited that style of rider. There were very few alternative motorcycles available in those days.

CMA never rejected anyone because of his/her choice of bike. CMA members are from different Christian denominations and both men and women can join.

Today there is a new branch of CMA, which is called ‘Fast Lane’ it has become popular with the off road scene and includes quad bike enthusiasts.

CMA unites 125 thousand members in CMA International – altogether there are 27 countries involved.

The Board of Association of the Latvian Motorcycle Clubs (McA) has been informed about CMA and it does not have any claim against CMA or its colors.

The Christian Motorcyclists Association Latvia

CMA Latvia grew out of the ‘Brotherhood of the Christian Motorcyclists’ – the name previously used in 2008.

We advertised in the Latvian media for Christian motorcyclists to join together to attend motorcycle events as well as organize our own activities. Initially 10 – 12 people got in contact and 5- 6 of them started meeting on a regular basis. After some time we started to consider how we should organize ourselves and what name we should use.

The ‘Brotherhood of the Christian Motorcyclists’ knew that there was already a Christian motorcyclists club called the Gospel Riders in Estonia (a neighbouring country north of Latvia) so we went to visit them. Although we still are friends with the Estonians we decided that we would not join them.

Via the Internet we found a website of The Christian Motorcyclists Association we sent information about ourselves and quickly realized this was the organization we were looking for.

CMA’s vision was very similar to what we wanted to achieve. We received confirmation when our representative went to the CMA International Leadership Conference in Arkansas, USA. During the winter of 2008 we completed the CMA teaching material which has given us a deeper understanding of CMA and its ministry.

Year 2009 - we continued to grow as team, our main aim this year was to be visible as union of fellow riders, to witness with our colors that there are Christian bikers in Latvia. God showed His favour and we was able to communitate with some biker club leaders as well mass media was interested in function of CMA .

We continued  collaboration with Estonian Christian biker club Gospel Riders and we thank God that there are Christian enthusiasts who will start Christian biker club in our Southern neighbor country Lithuania.

Some non-christian bikers was riding with us this season as well 3 Christian bikers showed their interest in CMA. Big bike events like European  HOG Rally, Baltic Chain Run took part in Latvia this season. CMA Latvia members joined hundreds of bikers in protest action against drastic raise of motorcycle road tax in Latvia.

God showed us that we need to develop prayer ministry. One Latvian motocross rider was found unconscious  on the racing track. After weeks in hospital he passed from this world. His mate is attending church now and we are keeping in touch with her.

We are looking forward  to work with hospitals and chaplains to start and develop ministry for wounded motorcyclists and their relatives. As well for those, who has lost a loved ones.

With God`s help we was able to continue our friendship with one children house, we visited them in their summer camp. So much fun, laughing and unforgettable memories! We was able to show that Christians are not boring or sorrowful people but they enjoy every day in the Lord.

God started and He will continue to work in Latvia through CMA. We believe that He will provide all necessary resources. We are  here to do His will – let His will be done!
